Learning to drive in Becontree
The cottage-estate design means miles of residential roads, crescents and junctions, many of which look alike. It's excellent for practising observation at junctions and reading road signs carefully rather than relying on landmarks.
Parked cars line many of the streets, so meeting oncoming traffic, finding a safe gap and moving off smoothly come up all the time. Parsloes Park, opened in 1935 to mark the estate's completion, sits right in the middle.
Barking test centre closed in January 2026, so Becontree learners now usually test at Goodmayes or Hornchurch. Both are a manageable drive away, and both have their own mix of roundabouts and faster roads.
Becontree is full of families and long-standing residents, and we teach everyone from 17-year-olds to parents getting back behind the wheel. Lessons go at your pace, in manual or automatic.
