Learning to drive in Hackney Wick
Wick Road used to be a congested dual carriageway. Hackney Council rebuilt it with two-way traffic, protected cycle lanes and more than 40 new trees, and the 30 bus has run both ways along it since 2019. Near Wallis Road, traffic calming has been added to slow drivers down, so expect a street that's designed to be driven gently.
Many streets here were built for industry rather than the flats, studios and bars that fill them now. Vans making deliveries, people spilling out of cafés and cyclists heading for the canal towpaths all call for low speeds and careful observation, which makes Hackney Wick a surprisingly good place to build those habits.
Just east, the A12 and the roads around the Olympic Park are where you meet faster traffic and bigger junctions. On event days at the park or London Stadium, the surrounding roads get much busier, so it's worth knowing what's on.
If you work irregular hours, in hospitality, creative work or shifts, lessons need to fit around that, and we teach manual and automatic with evening and weekend slots. And if you've put off learning for years and feel nervous about starting, you're far from the only one. Lessons go at your pace.
