Learning to drive in Canning Town
The Canning Town interchange, where the A13, the A1011 and Barking Road meet, is one of the busiest junctions in the area. Signals, lanes that split early and traffic heading for the Blackwall and Silvertown tunnels make lane discipline essential. Just south, Silvertown Way flies over the Tidal Basin Roundabout, which is now the northern end of the Silvertown Tunnel.
Since April 2025, driving through either the Silvertown or Blackwall tunnel costs a charge each way, with higher prices at peak times. You won't need to worry about that during lessons, but it's worth knowing once you pass, especially if a sat-nav suggests a river crossing.
Barking Road is the everyday high street, with buses, crossings and shoppers around Rathbone Market. Away from the main roads, the older terraces and newer estate streets give you calmer places to build control.
Canning Town is two stops from Canary Wharf on the Jubilee line, and a lot of people living in the new flats commute there. If that's you and you want evening or weekend lessons, or you've driven before but never in London, we'll plan lessons around it.
