Learning to drive in Walthamstow
Orford Road is closed to general traffic between 10am and 10pm, and filters and cycle tracks run through many of the surrounding streets. For drivers, that means planning routes along main roads like Hoe Street and Forest Road and watching carefully for cyclists at junctions.
Hoe Street is the busy spine of the town, running past Walthamstow Central towards Lea Bridge Road, with buses, shops and plenty of pedestrians. Further north, the North Circular and Chingford are a short drive away.
Chingford test centre is close by, and its routes include Charlie Brown's Roundabout on the North Circular, one of the trickier junctions in the area. Wanstead is the other realistic option.
Walthamstow draws young families and professionals from all over London. If you've just moved here, are returning to driving, or are nervous about busy roads, lessons are paced around you in manual or automatic.
