Learning to drive in Wanstead
Both roundabouts ask a lot: choosing your lane early, reading the signs on approach and keeping good observation as traffic joins from several directions. Living nearby means you meet them as a normal part of driving, not just in the run-up to your test.
Away from them, Wanstead feels like a village. The High Street has cafés, shops and parking bays, and George Green and Wanstead Park give the area plenty of leafy residential roads. Much of the A12 runs underneath in a tunnel built as part of the M11 link road in the 1990s, so a lot of through traffic passes below rather than through the town.
If you're returning to driving after a long break, have just moved here, or are starting from scratch and feeling nervous, lessons are paced around you in manual or automatic. For plenty of learners, knowing the test centre's roads well takes a lot of pressure off.
